Little Chums is owned and run by a family who live in Pontypool - a real family business run by people who are passionate about childcare and education who have a combined experience of over 50 years, including managing Flying Start in Newport and a fully qualified, experienced Primary school teacher.
All of our staff hold relevant qualifications, which consists of NVQ Level 5 in Childcare and Management, NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Childcare, NVQ Level 2 in Childcare, NNEB, Childcare & Education Level 3, Level 3 Playwork or equivalent qualifications.
We operate a ‘Key Worker’ system where, every day for your child(ren), the same team member will greet, provide care for and provide a farewell at the end of the day. This team member will also liaise everyday with parents / carers, providing feedback and information.
We enjoy low staff turnover, which means your child will consistently receive care from the same people day after day.

Sarah Jordan (nee Vaisey)
Owner/Manager
Sarah has over 20 years of childcare experience, working as a childcare assistant and deputy and manager of other day nurseries before opening Little Chums in 2007 and Cyfeillion Bach in 2013. Sarah has a Level 4 childcare qualification and an NNEB.
Nicola Powell (nee Vaisey)
Owner/Manager
Nicola has over 20 years of childcare experience, working as a childcare assistant and deputy of other day nurseries before opening Little Chums in 2007 and Cyfeillion Bach in 2013. Nicola has a Level 4 childcare qualification, an NNEB and a Level 3 in Playwork.
Chantelle Vaisey
Childcare Manager
Chantelle has over 20 years of experience in education and childcare. Starting as a teaching assistant, she has worked her way up to manage both school and independent nurseries, as well as being a former manager of a Children’s Centre in Newport and Operational Manager for Flying Start in Newport. Chantelle has a Level 4/5 in Childcare, a Level 5 Management qualification and Level 3 qualification in Playwork.
Andrew Vaisey
Teacher / Business Manager
Andrew has almost 25 years of experience in education and childcare, working as a primary school teacher for 15 years. He is inspection trained and holds a B.A. teaching degree with fully qualified teacher status. Andrew also has Level 5 Management and Level 3 Playwork qualifications.
Rachael Webb
Deputy Manager / Senior Practitioner
Rachael has worked at Little Chums since 2007, working her way up from a childcare assistant to Deputy Manager with a Level 5 qualification. Rachael has been previously nominated for a NDNA practitioner of the year award.
Lauren MacDonald
Deputy Manager / Senior Practitioner
Lauren is our other Deputy Manager and holds a Level 5 qualification in childcare, having previously worked in Flying Start childcare settings. She is the daughter of managers Chantelle and Andrew.
Elisha Cousins
Senior Practitioner
Elisha has worked at Little Chums since 2013, working her way up from a childcare practitioner to senior practitioner. She holds a Level 5 qualification in Childcare.
Hollie Felton
Senior Practitioner
Hollie joined Little Chums in 2016, after being with us on a college placement for 6 months as a student and volunteer. She is Level 3 qualified and is working towards her Level 4.
Shauna Jeremiah
Senior Practitioner
Shauna joined Little Chums in 2019, after being with us on a college placement for 6 months as a student. She is Level 3 qualified and is working towards her Level 4.
Holly Bailey
Senior Practitioner
Holly joined Little Chums in 2019 as an apprentice, completing her Level 3 qualification. She has worked hard towards gaining a senior role.
Nicole Jones
Senior Practitioner
Nicole joined Little Chums in June 2022 and has experience of working in other private day care settings. She is qualified to Level 3.
Chloe James
Childcare Practitioner
Chloe joined Little Chums in 2018 to undertake a childcare apprenticeship, after being with us on a college placement as a student. She is Level 2 qualified and has almost completed her Level 3.
Sophie Greenman
Childcare Practitioner
Sophie joined Little Chums in July 2022 after being with us on a college placement and working for Torfaen Playschemes. She is fully qualified to Level 3 in both Childcare and Playwork.
Jade Williams
Childcare Practitioner
Jade joined our team in January 2023. She has experience of working in other private day care settings and has a Level 3 in both Childcare and Playwork.
Caitlin Tucker
Childcare Practitioner
Caitlin spent over 6 months with us on a student placement, while completing her Level 2 qualification with Coleg Gwent. We rewarded her hard work and enthusiasm with a full time position in July 2023!
Katie Dawkins
Childcare Practitioner
Katie is a new member of the team, joining in September 2023. She is qualified to Level 3 in both Childcare and Playwork. She has experience of working in other childcare settings and with Torfaen Playschemes.
Molly Jenkins
Childcare Practitioner
Molly is a new member of the team, joining in September 2023. She is qualified to Level 3 in Childcare. She has previously worked with children as a child minding assistant.
